Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Saver My dog Lucky has copper storage disease. He was prescribed Hills Prescription diet which he ate for the first couple weeks. After about 2 weeks he would no longer eat it. I was panicked because I was told this was the only prescription diet available with low copper. I did a search on the internet and found your hepatic product. I was so excited to have another option! Not only is the can bigger than the Hills diet, my dog Lucky LOVES the flavor of both the wet and dry Hepatic food. He has been on it for over a month now and he still loves it! Your product saved my dog's life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Royal Canin saved my Dachshund! In February of 2014 our normally healthy (vision impaired) four year old Dachshund Emilee became ill. She was rushed to our veterinarian (Dr. Kim Horton) late at night as she was deteriorating rapidly. Vomiting and refusing to eat, generally depressed. After seeing our regular veterinarian, a specialist, and being hospitalized for 4 days. It was determined that she had an inoperable liver shunt. Dr. Horton outlined a very specific protocol for us to follow with medications and feeding. We attempted every home cooked meal, as well as a prescription diet made by a leading competitor of Royal Canin. Emilee would not eat any of the homemade diets or the competitors prescription diet. Our veterinarian advised us to sit tight as she was in the process of switching her prescription diet at the clinic to Royal Canin. We were one of the first on the list to receive food. We received both wet and dry Royal Canin Hepatic Diet. Here we are! August 2015, and Emilee is not only surviving she is THRIVING. At the time of her diagnosis she was 7.2lbs, she is currently 9lbs. We even noticed (just recently) that she has grown an undercoat, instead of the sparse wirehair coat she had always had. Her last three bloodwork panels have all come back in normal range (bile acids included!). Yes, we are strict with her medication protocol...down to the minute actually on all three of her medications that she will have to take for the rest of her life. BUT, without Royal Canin where would we be? Royal Canin and a fantastic veterinarian gave us (to date) an additional 18 months to enjoy our precious Emilee. No matter what tomorrow brings we know that without Royal Canin we would have lost Emilee a long time ago. As it stands we have had many months to understand her condition and learn to manage it for whatever time she has with us. We actually asked our veterinarian if Royal Canin had a "frequent flyer" program! We've also used some of the other prescription diets Royal Canin provides on our other dogs in times of need. We couldn't be happier with the quality and consistency of Emilee's food, and all the Royal Canin food that we have received. Thank you, you will never know how very much your product has meant to our family!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My pup LOVES this stuff! I have a puppy with a liver shunt and this was recommended by our vet. We have tried another brand before and the dog refused to eat it. She LOVES the taste and is eating like a champ! A great food is only great if the dog will readily eat it and this baby is actually gaining weight!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Possible Quality Control Issues with Canned Food Cody has been on this food for 3 months. We use a mixture of canned and dry food for him. He loves them both. We've ordered six cases of the canned food (two per month). I've noticed from one month to the next that the moisture content in the cans varies greatly. The first two cases were so dry I almost didn't reorder. The next two cases were what I would expect from a canned food. The fourth and fifth cases were somewhere in between. In all the cases the food in the top of the can is drier than food on the bottom of the can. Just an observation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My dog loves this!!! I have a 9 year old chihuahua that unfortunately developed liver issues. I needed to get my little man on a special diet to help him. I tried many different diets and he of course didn't care for any (chihuahuas tend to be a little picky anyway) until I got the Royal Canin Hepatic diet and he loves it!!! I'm so happy he likes it because his health really started to decline. I'm so very thankful for this diet. If it wasn't for it, I truly believe he wouldn't be with me today. I'm a huge Royal Canin fan!!! Thank you!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dog hates this food My dog was recently diagnose with an acute liver issue. My vet switched him to the Hepatic canned food and medicine in order to give his liver a chance to heal. The problem is, my dog HATES the food. He won't touch it. I have to blend it up and feed him with a syringe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life Saver As noted by a previous reviewer our dog (Maltese Cross) was also diagnosed with a Liver Shunt after weeks of poor digestion/diarrhea and lethargy. Our Veterinarian recommend Royal Canin Brand Hepatic Diet as her 1st choice of products. She also provided a second brand in the event that our dog became finicky. Needless to say she during a 2 day taste test she preferred this product over the competitors version. Also the amount of food and caloric intake of this product is higher per oz vs the competitors brand, this saves $$$ over time which is very appreciated! We will be returning the other product to our vet and purchasing additional Royal Canin. We did discover that adding a slight bit of water and mixing to loosen the consistency as well as slightly warming the food just slightly has really helped her adjust to the change in foods. I was wondering if they made small treats for dogs on this program? That would be helpful for an occasional reward. Thank you for making such a high quality life saving diet for our dog :)
