Product Reviews
Royal Canin Veterinary Diet ® Feline Ultamino ® dry cat food 5.5 lb bag is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only food that saved my cat My cat Crosby had such severe food allergy breakouts, that there was a point in time when I seriously thought he could die. Even my vet was shocked at his appearance, and the entire clinic had never seen anything so awful. He looked like he had been mauled by another animal, it was that bad. We went on medications, fluids, and started him on Ultamino. It took awhile, but he cleared up, and he is healthy and active once again. I don't even want to chance trying another food. Yes, it is expensive, but I look at it this way - Do I buy an expensive food for my little loved one to keep him healthy, or do I spend far more money in vet bills, while my kitty suffers? There is no comparison. I would recommend Ultamino for anyone who has a cat with severe food allergies. Before and after pictures attached.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from questionable I bought this at my vets advice to attempt to ameliorate some of my cat's allergy symptoms. I have 2 cats and neither one liked the food. They ate less than 1/2 cup total per day between them. No other food was offered. This product doesn't have a wet food complement, so due to allergies, I only put down the dry food. The food gets spongy and sticky during the day from just being out. I don't live near the water, nor is there water in the room with the food, so I'm guessing it has to do with the chemistry in the kibble.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mixed review Finally decided to give this food a try. My 2yr old beautiful baby suffered from constant loose stool. He was already on a grain free, fish free diet and tried eliminating turkey/chicken, but nothing seemed to work. Introduced ultamino slowly—and eventually pulled the other. Diarrhea went away after about 4 or so days. That was the goal. This is where it gets tricky. The food pieces are extremely large. The food, after being out for a couple hours, get weird (wet/stale). No wet food alternative for this food is available. Changes definitely need to be made by manufacturer—I made an appointment w the vet Bc I’m worried that my babies are not eating enough Bc of large morsels and food getting stale shortly after I put it down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A great food that is unavailable is pointless I would have to say I’m extremely disappointed in this brand. Ultamino was good for our cat who has a food sensitivity. But this has literally not been available anywhere for the past month. That’s just unacceptable for a pet food company that many people rely on. You’ve lost my business and many others.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great food, but always out of stock! Very disappointing when you finally find a food that works for your animals and it is constantly unavailable from the warehouse.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 8 pawsdown! I have 8 cats. One has yet to be determined allergies (itchy/scratchy). He's been on RC Limited Diet Duck/Green Pea formula for years. The DVM thought maybe Ultamino formula would be better. NOT! First, it smells horrendous. Cats have a keen sense of special & they ALL took one whiff of this food and turned up their noses. Even the feral cat I feed wouldn't eat it! Second, it is only available in a 5.5# bag. If my cats HAD liked the food, it would be cost-prohibitive, as are many of the RC foods but as a pet parent, what other option(s) do I have? If they need a certain food, they need it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helped our cat with IBD Our cat who was recently diagnosed with IBD has been eating this food for a few months now. He really likes it and has regained the weight he lost before his diagnosis. He eats the Ultamino in combination with a limited ingredient canned food. We are quite pleased with the results of this diet but have just noticed that our bag of food is moist. When I put my hand in the bag, the food sticks to my fingers. It is near the bottom of the bag, so I will throw out the remainder. I do see someone else had the same issue. Is this a normal occurrence with the Ultamino? I want to purchase more but am concerned about the moisture development. The food smells fine and has been kept on the counter, tightly sealed after each use. Humidity in our home has been low due to the furnace running.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solves several problems with one food My vet recommended this product for my cat that had bladder stones, another that had allergies and two that showed signs of crystals. So far, so good. Not sure if it will help with bladder stones as it is too early to tell. My cat with allergies though, is in excellent condition. She no longer has sores all over her face and she isn't scratching, non stop, anymore. 5 of my cats love the flavor but one of them isn't too enthused with it. He will eat it though. I don't like the fact that the protein content is so low, but I've tried everything else, and nothing has worked for allergies. The price, on the other hand is ridiculous. At $44.00 for a 5.5 lb. bag, It cost me $170.00 per month to feed all of my cats this food. And it only comes in a small bag, so i have to go to the vets office every week to get food. Very inconvenient and soooo expensive. The only way I'll be able to keep them on this food is if it lowers my vet bills. To recap, excellent food for cats with allergies. Not sure about bladder stones and crystals yet. Very expensive. Bag size makes it inconvenient.
