decent good but doesn't like the smell

We've been using this food for a few months. It's changed in size and color over the bags. For a dog that's highly food motivated, our dog has never loved the taste, but would would tolerate it. He's gone on hunger strike more than once over this food. We started mixing with another food he liked, but has stopped eating that, now also. We'll be switching him to something else.

Saved my Blind Dog

My blind Mini Australian Shepherd suffered from an allergic reaction about six months ago. In the following weeks she had chronic diarrhea and allergic flare ups (loss of hair, loss of appetite, vomiting, swollen eyes, itching, etc.). We switched to this diet when the vet explained that insensitivities can develop after anaphylactic shock. Since switching our dog has returned to her normal, healthy self! Her appetite is strong, stools healthy, and skin beautiful. I couldn't be more grateful to find something to make her feel better. I don't know what we'd give if her if it weren't for this hydrolyzed protein dog food.

Our dog is finally getting some relief

We have an elderly Shih Tzu who has had skin issues and chronic yeast infections in her ears since we got her (at around three or four years old, she was a rescue so we're not sure) in 2008. The older she gets the worse her skin got. We've tried everything and I even started making her food using alligator and kangaroo meat to try and find something that gave her some relief. She just kept getting worse. She chewed her legs so much they almost doubled in size from swelling and calluses. She had no fur in her "armpit" areas and the skin was angry and red. She was miserable and we actually thought about putting her out of her misery even though she is still otherwise healthy. Last week we saw a new vet who was so appalled by her skin that she suggested we start feeding her this food only. I was skeptical since we've tried lots of different types of food with no change. We were so desperate we didn't even ease her into the change we just went straight from the homemade food to this and, remarkably, there was no intestinal upset or other difficulty in the switch. It has been one week today and the difference in her skin is amazing. (Full disclosure, she is also taking an antibiotic for her chronic cough and we are also using a spray on her skin which we had used before with no noticeable change) . We fully believe that this food is what is making the main difference in her skin. She is not scratching or chewing her legs and her fur has started growing back. She is able to sleep again and is so much more peaceful. This food is worth every penny because it is giving our sweet girl the quality of life she deserves.

Food Allergies

My Deerhound has been suffering with food allergies. After switching to only this food he has made an amazing comeback. He has put on 8+ pounds over 2 months. His bowel movements are normal consistency and color. His vomiting has stopped. His coat is coming back in. He’s back to my happy, healthy 3 year old buddy. Its expensive but worth it.

Picky Eater Approved!

I purchased this just over a month ago at the recommendation of my veterinarian due to my greyhounds chronic diarrhea. I have had him since he was three months old and no matter what food I have tried he has stopped eating it after 3-4 days or refuses to try it at all. This food is the FIRST dry food he has happily agreed to not only eat initially but continues to eat! I am very happy with the progress we have made with his digestive issues and this food has done wonders to help. I work at a veterinarians office and all the foods I have tried on him were quality brands yet still this is the first to make a significant difference not only for his gastrointestinal issues but also for his appetite. He has also struggled to keep weight on most likely due to his issues however he is steadily gaining wait on this food and his coat is glowing.

Will not feed anything else!

My dog was diagnosed with IBD when he was 16 months old. I am a veterinary technician at a large ER/Specialty center and fed him an alternative brand of hydrolyzed food. He continued to show GI signs (vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence) and it was recommended to trial him on Royal Canin's HP. Within a month, his stools were normal (and for a 140# dog, that's A LOT!!) He has been on nothing but this food for 3.5 years and things are going fantastic. I recommend this food to anyone who has a GI sensitive pup!

My dog developed food allergies at about a year old and we have switched his food multiple times over the span of 4 years. From steroid shots to apoquel, nothing seemed to work amazing aside from an actual steroid (2 week relief). After switching to this food his coat completely changed. We are talking itchy flakey skin with course dry fur turn into resilient skin with super model hair/fur. I am just in SHOCK that this food was available and we struggled with vets for about 4 years. We tried everything under the sun, kangaroo & lentil organic diets, broiled vegetables, and multiple all natural brands popular for dogs skin allergies.. Royal Canin has SAVED my dog and I from the stress and disappointment of natural occurrences with allergies and food. THANK YOU!!!

The food has fixed my dog's problems, but...

So my GSD has been on this dry dog food for a little over a year now, and it's worked at correcting her digestive problems and chronic diarrhea. For that it's worked fine, yet at the amounts I've been feeding her (5 cups per day) has caused her to gain weight. Optimally, she's a 80-88 pound dog and now weighs in at 104 and is four months' shy of her third birthday. Any suggestions? My new DVM has suggested cutting down on the amount I give her to 4 cups per day.

Best diet out there!

I have been a vet tech for 12 years now. My mom's dog developed food allergies 14 years ago. We started her on Z/D and her allergies cleared up but her coat was never very good. She was a shabby looking pomeranian. We got some ducks and decided to try and make a limited ingredient diet out of duck eggs and we also put her on supplements. Her coat got worse and she started loosing weight. The clinic I was working for started carrying royal canin so we tried the HP diet. Her coat tripled in thickness and was softer than we had ever seen it! Some people freak out about the ingredients but those don't matter if the required nutrients are there, in right amount and they are made readily digestible. Also some of those so called fillers are prebiotics, they are meant to feed the good bacteria not the dog. The end result is what matters, a healthy happy dog! Royal canin never has recalls because they test EVERY batch of food and are meticulous with their product. If you have a chronic vomiting dog or one with chronic itching and red skin just put them on this food for a couple months. They will refund your money if it doesn't work so what do you have to loose?

My Giant Schnauzer puppy developed chronic digestive issues after antiobitiocs when he was 4 months old, eventually developing an intussusception in his small intestine. For nearly 2 months he barely grew and failed to gain any weight. At 6 months of age, we finally diagnosed the problem and he had surgery to repair the intestine, but lost 2 inches that were too damaged. We started the HP a couple weeks after his surgery as our first dry food for the high digestibility and the fact that it is feeding trial testing for growth. Since putting him on the food, he has grown, gained energy and gained weight, and two months post-op is 60lbs and still going. He looks so much better and he loves the food - absolutely inhales it. He still has a very sensitive stomach and the slightest change in his diet causes loose stool, so we will keep him on the HP for at least 3 months. His coat is coming back in nicely and he is muscling up. Very pleased with the digestibility and how he has responded. Thanks!!

Great to hear of his successful turn around!
