My cat loves it!

My cat is 14 years old. He developed kidney disease a couple of years back and was placed on prescribed dry food...he would barely eat it, just enough to have some energy but I noticed him losing weight fast. The local vet prescribed other types of dry food but my cat was so stubborn he would not eat much or any of them, he would refuse any of dry or wet food prescribed to him and so he was losing weight too fast. He was throwing up almost every other day and had soft stool almost diarrhea most of the time. He was not doing well. We took him to a specialist and discovered he also developed intestinal inflammatory disease. The specialist suggested this gastrointestinal food and from the moment he tried it he absolutely loved it! My cat is very picky so I was shocked to see him empty the plate. Ever since he started this new diet, his throwing up got much better, to like once every other month, his stool was firm and no more diarrhea and he started gaining a little weight. We are happy so far with the results!

THUMBS UP FOR THE NEW FORMULA!

Our cat was diagnosed through biopsy with IBD. He's been on this food exclusively for the past 4 years. The most recent formula change gets an all paws up from our cat. He wasn't thrilled with the old formula flavor and wasn't a good eater. He now gets super excited at meal times, finishes his portions in a few short minutes and then gets the zoomies! Although he's 15, he's so excited after eating he plays peek-a-boo around the house and basically acts euphoric. Thanks for the formula update, Royal Canin! Also, our cat had no problem changing from the old formula to this one. No stomach upset or IBD flareup - yay!

Availability and reviews

My cats had to transition to the wet food gastro S/O due to numerous changes in the dry food and some whoppers of vet bills. Now I read reviews of this food and see the same thing is happening…..changes in formulas, changes in product size and amount with no reduction in price as well as spotty availability. The most recent case had numerous dented cans and they weren’t on the perimeter of the shrink wrapped case either. It seems that production problems and quality are suffering. I am now in search of another brand due to the lack of consistency. If anyone has suggestions I would love to hear them. Transitioning cats to foods they aren’t accustomed to is a nightmare for them and their owners but the quality control and production seems to be absent with Royal Canin. It makes me nervous to think what is actually going in to the food as well.

Ripoff Price

They lower the gastro wet food from 5.7 ounces to 5.1 and have the nerve to keep the same price. After 5 years of using this cat food, I’m gone!,,,

Greatly Helped Digestive Issue

We are happy with this product and has greatly helped our cat from throwing up (she is on maintenance chemo for intestinal cancer). The flavor is not our cat's favorite so we add freeze dried protein (i.e., chicken, salmon, etc.). We break the freeze dried bits using a mortar and pestle and mix a couple of spoons with the can food.

Disappointing

Reorders for this product are unreliable and difficult to obtain. According to the veterinary pharmacy, this is due to Royal Canin's internal production problems. In addition, the last shipment arrived in unsatisfactory, smaller 5.1 oz cans -- same price, less product seems like a rip-off. My vet prefers this product to competitors but prescribed backup alternatives that are readily available, in larger cans, and less expensive. Royal Canin social media (e.g. Insta, Twitter) say nothing about these issues. Maybe try a little transparency for a change!?!?
