New canned HP formula

My dog with IBD and pancreatitis had been eating the old formula successfully, gaining weight and doing well. I've been trying to feed her the new formula but she increasingly refuses to eat it and now is losing her appetite generally. Her IBD manifested itself with low protein levels, not GI symptoms, so I can't tell from her stools if she is having a flare. But I will be returning the cans that I have and switching to the Purina ProPlan hydrolyzed protein food, which unfortunately she doesn't like as much as the former RC product.

Formula Change made my dog sick

Royal Canin’s HP (canned) diet was the only food that she tolerated and prevented upsets. For 2 years my pet was healthy. Then I noticed a large amount of runny liquid when I opened the cans. My pet developed gas, loose stools, loss of appetite and glands constantly compacting. My pet did not adjust to the new formula but instead the IBD became worse. I am so disappointed with Royal Canin that they did not post this change in advance and made my dog sick again. I would have paid more for the original formula.

Totally let down!!!

My dog was eating the Hypoallergenic Hydrolyzed Protein dry dog food. Now for the last month he has been going down hill and back to where we started. He went and seen an internal medicine vet in Edmonton Alberta they said he needed to stay on this food which he was doing great on. Now he is back to pooping blood and loss of appetite. I just found out the name change and formula change. I’m very frustrated and concerned for my dogs well being. The fact no notice of this is very upsetting. We have been totally let down by your company. I can’t even give it 1 star.

Formula change caused serious IBD flare BEWARE

Words cannot describe how disappointed I am with Royal Canin. The formula change with this food caused my dog serious GI upset, bloating, gas and vomiting and led to the worst flare up he has had since being diagnosed with IBD 2 years ago after only 3 days of eating the new formula. The dogs that rely on this food have serious conditions and for Royal Canin not to notify consumers of this change and on top of that to change the ingredients and add fillers that are making dogs with serious GI conditions sick is reprehensible. When I called Royal Canin to report my dogs IBD flare caused by this formula change I was told nothing cold be done and they quite frankly expressed no concern. I would happily pay more if the old formula was brought back. We are now left scrambling for a new food for my poor dog who did not deserve this. This food is made for dogs with serious health conditions. IBD is life threatening and this formula change has serious consequences!. Extremely saddened by this please pay attention to these negative reviews royal canin and fix this!

Royal Canin let me and thousands of others down

After trial and error of a dozen foods this product was the one my dog with IBD could finally keep down and live a healthy life on. The recipe change caught me off guard, i had no knowledge of it. My dog had his worst IBD reaction since he was diagnosed from eating 1 can of this in late December. It took him 2 weeks and doubling the dosage of his medication to recover from it. The other hydrolyzed foods that weren’t the right fit would at least be semi-tolerable, he would just get diarrhea or mild symptoms that would pass a day or two after stopping the food. This new recipe was completely intolerable. I’ve read dozens of reviews all over the internet of folks having issues with the new recipe. Royal Canin needs to revert back, if it’s a money thing I’d have no problem paying more for the health of my pet.

Major Safety Concern - Formulation Change

I have been feeding Royal Canin to my animals for over a decade. This specific food to one of my dogs with significant gastro issues for 8+ years. Last month, I noticed a change to the food. Then, my dog started to show signs of stomach upset. After investigation, discovered there has been a change in formulation (big enough to change the fat, protein and calorie content significantly). Royal Canin was purely negligent in the failure to notify their distributors and consumers about this change. This food is made for dogs who have very specific and often delicate dietary requirements. The change AND failure to inform has created a very concerning and upsetting safety issue. I luckily had some cases of the old formula left which I will use to switch my animals to a more trustworthy brand. I am genuinely concerned for the well being of other animals on this food for the reasons my pets are. I wish the best to all pet owners experiencing difficulties with this issue.

New Formula made my dog sick

I am so disappointed with the company for changing a formula that pets eat because they can’t tolerate other foods. A few years ago we started using HP for our dog who has allergies to what seemed like everything. Recently I noticed a change in the food, I didn’t think much of it, I kept feeding it . First my dog started to have loose stools , it got progressively worse. He had horrible gas , he has acid reflux and that started flaring up ,He started loosing weight and I started seeing blood in his stool. This happened over a case of food. I called the vet, they had not been told of any changes to the food. I had another case of food so I opened a can and it was normal, well at that point I called Royal Canin to be told that the formula had been changed..The old Formula didn’t meet nutritional requirements. Now we had been using this food for 2 yrs with no problems and our dog was finally healthy! I was able at that point to compare the 2 cans . Not only had the formula changed but the calorie count had lessened and the feeding guidelines had been increased. So my vet was not notified of any changes and I had no idea of any changes until my dog got sick , had I not Had an extra case of the older food I wouldn’t have know until I called the company. Within 2 days of feeding the old formula all my dogs symptoms were gone . Unfortunately we can no longer use Royal Canin, I feel like it was so careless to make these changes with a food that dogs already use because they have food sensitivity and not let the Veterinarians or customers know . I can not truly express the frustration and disappointment I have in this company who I trusted and recommended with confidence in the past. What this feels like is another money grab .Lesson the quality, decrease the calorie content And add the amount of food you feed. I could get behind a price increase if more money is what you’re after . I would pay more for the health of my pet! I know I was not the only customer to have these issues because it was in your reviews . It seems all the reviews have now been removed! It’s a huge red flag to me . If you’re reading this , I pray this new formula works for your pet. It did not for our dog.
