Why Royal Canin? Why change the formula?

I started my dog on this food for multiple reasons, at first he was doing amazing and it probably saved his life. Just as we were able start to get weight back my dog they changed the formula and he has gone 3 steps backwards. His skin is back to being itchy and raised bumps again and the consistency of the product now is horrible. We have to feed my pup “meatballs due to dysmotility in his upper GI and the next texture of the food doesn’t allow for us to do that. The worst problem to navigate with this horrible new formula is my dog has EXPLOSIVE diarrhea! We went from getting to a good weight back down to an emaciated dog again and the stress of cleaning up to 8 rounds of diarrhea a day is making this momma crazy. Why did you change such a great product Royal Canin? This is a food made for extremely sensitive dogs and changing it doesn’t make sense. Please make it make sense.

OVERPRICED - Obscenely expensive with no coupons

This review is specifically to the prices Royal Canin charges customers for their dog food. This food is basically the only food my dog is able to eat for the next five months due to have hot spots that may be food related. I called customer service and Royal Canin does not provide customer coupons. This is maddening as a consumer and customer forced to buy this dog food. This food was a last resort and believe me after five months I will never buy Royal Canin products again. My dog is specifically on this for hot spots - the food has helped rid him of his hot spots he has had for seven months.
Royal Canin response
I am very sorry you feel that way. The decision to increase our prices is never taken lightly, but it is necessary to continue to deliver a quality product for the pets that we serve.  The rising costs of innovation, raw materials, packaging and transportation are reflected in the current price increase.

Happy pup

I got this for my puppy 2 years ago as I was about to put her to sleep as we had tried so many different foods. She was on deaths door. If I could put the pictures of her licking the bag I would. I have more to say but limited to this

Worth it!

My eight-year-old lab was diagnosed with protein losing enteropathy last summer. He was prescribed this food along with budesonide, 3 mg capsules and a canine B12 Supplement called Cobalequin. He loves the food, and has been doing really well ever since

Issues with this food

I have a dog that has suffered from hotspots. My veterinarian prescribed this food for my dog. I was mixing an introductory size bag with my dogs other food before transitioning my dog solely on this food. Since transitioning solely on to this food, my dog's hotspots have not improved and in fact worsened. My dog is strictly on this food and water. He does not get treats of any kind. The food has an odor that is not pleasant. You will want to dump the entire bag in an airtight container not the resealable bag itself. Unfortunately I just purchased a 25lb bag. One positive note, my dog doesn't suffer from wicked gas on this food and was tolerant of it. He did not suffer from diarrhea or nausea. I may mention RC Anallergenic to my vet.

Best food

My dog had many issues with his skin and digestion. After many steroids, antibiotics and special shampoos my vet recommended we test for food allergies. Sure enough he has MANY! We tried this food and in days he cleared up. He has now been on it 5 years.

Bring back the old formula!

So disappointed with the change in formula. Dogs on this formula already have a multitude of skin/allergy issues which means that they do not have a lot of options when it comes to food. Did Royal Canin really think that no one would detect the changes? A dog's nose knows. My dog was on this and doing really well, but now refuses to eat it because it no longer contains pork fat. What am I going to feed her now? Bring back the old formula!

It was great until it wasn't-- formula changed

My dog was prescribed the RC HP diet in 2020. I think it saved his life. The formula has changed maybe twice to my knowledge but we didn't have any issues until now other than just a bad batch or two. But the recent formulation has caused my dog to have intense GI issues and excessive itching. At first it was just annoying because the consistency/texture is different. Before it was like a pate and now its paste (like peanutbutter). Its difficult keeping his mouth area and bowl clean. But now its causing my dog harm so we have to walk away. I'm also frustrated that the retailer has no details on the formula change and RC made no effort to inform dog owners. Now I'm spinning trying to get details and veterinarian appointments.

Great Product!!

My little 5 pound yorkie was diagnosed with a protein losing disease 3 years ago. The vet told me she would not survive. We switched her to Royal Canin hydrolyzed protein food for small breeds along with a probiotic and one other med and she has thrived. You would think she is a puppy and she is 10 1/2. I give this food a lot of credit for helping to save her life.
Royal Canin response
Thank you for your kind words.

Hydrolized Help for Sensitive Rescue

My mixed rescue (mostly lab/boxer) has been on hydrolized diet for about 8 years. It took us a while to find what helped him with skin & gastrointestinal problems. Once vet put him on diet there was a huge improvement. We’ve stuck with it since. And our other dogs like the kibble as treats and rewards.
