Supporting their skin is the first line of defense

About one in ten dogs is sensitive to pollens of grasses, trees and weeds, house dust mites and other elements in the environment.1

In the presence of these environmental allergens, a sensitized dog’s immune system can become disordered and overactive. The whole process can trigger inflammation in the skin which is already weakened by deficient skin barrier efficacy. Therefore, supporting your dog’s skin is an important line of defense in the management of canine atopic dermatitis (CAD)

The new ROYAL CANIN® Skintopic™ range is specially formulated to assist in the management of skin problems and environmental allergies in adult dogs. The diet helps in the management of inflamed skin, it also helps support the skin barrier properties to a unique complex of nutrients which includes Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, Vitamins A and E, minerals and biotin.

This range of new diets has a scientifically proven performance for providing significant itch reduction in 8 out of 10 CAD dogs. Results show that SKINTOPIC™ helps 82% of dogs to diminish pruritus2 and maintain a good quality of life2.

How atopic dermatitis can affect the quality of life of your dog

Itching, scratching and self-biting are the first symptoms you may see, and they are often only a sign of what’s going on beneath your dog’s coat. Interestingly, 82% of dogs who have environmental skin allergies spend most of their time indoors3, where some of the most common allergens like dust mites are to be found.

Canine atopic dermatitis can lead to a breakdown in normal skin function, allowing the allergen to break through the weakened skin barrier and stimulate the immune system in allergic dogs. The inflammation triggered by the condition can cause skin redness, rashes, chronic otitis, darkening of the skin and recurrent infections among other symptoms.

All these symptoms can severely affect the quality of life of your dog, in particular because canine atopic dermatitis (or "atopy") has a chronic nature and needs to be managed on a long-term basis.

Your dog’s distress can also have an impact on your own family so it is all the more important to treat this health condition so that you and your loved ones can enjoy a great quality of life, together.

A multimodal approach is often the most efficient

If your veterinarian has diagnosed atopic dermatitis, they will recommend a personalized management plan. Which may consist in a multi-modal approach, which will include nutritional support, is intended to optimize the management of canine atopic dermatitis by targeting a combination of diverse solutions to take into account all the important parts of the disease.
