If It Ain’t Broken …!

After 25+ years as a loyal and consistent Royal Canin consumer, I have now lost respect for, and trust in, the company overall. Over the years, I’ve always fed my Kitties the Selected Protein PV diet (neither the PR nor PD diets were ever a hit), and only two of those Kitties, many YEARS ago, actually required a prescription diet! But, once the others tasted it, too, they were all hooked, and it became ALL of my Babies’ food of choice, from then on. While they do enjoy the variety of other high-quality canned foods I feed them, the RC PV was very obviously their BFF — their Best Food Forever. However, all of that has changed. What they loved about the PV was its smooth, light, consistent pâté form in gel — NOT this dry, hard, chunky, lumpy crap in “sauce” that Royal Canin suddenly, out-of-the-blue, and without ANY justification or warning, decided to replace it with! And, to add insult to INJURY, they ALSO reduced the size of the CANS (the 5.6-ounce cans always worked PERFECTLY for us), but certainly NOT the PRICE. So, thanks a lot, Royal Canin, for changing everything great about your Selected Protein PV diet (and, apparently, your other Selected Protein diets, as well!) for the worst. If it ain’t broken, then why would you try to fix it, and then actually believe that you DID?! It’s this NEW “food” that needs fixing, and the only way to do THAT is to revert back to the previous one, and then quit while you’re ahead! But, I won’t hold my breath.

Want The Original Back

This is the only food that was recommended for my cat who needed a novel protein diet. She loved the original formula, which was a light-colored pate. The new formula is hard and chunky and the can holds fewer ounces. Now I'm paying more per ounce for a less appealing food. Can we get the old formula back?

Not even the ferals will eat it now

I have 2 cats with IBD and diabetes who were well regulated on the PV in the larger can and loved it. Now, they won’t touch whatever the junk is that is in the smaller can and also won’t eat any other food that was put into the bowl beside it. I feed a feral colony, who will generally eat any leftover cat food, and they also shun this new PV. Very disappointed in this change and as my IBD diabetic cats won’t eat the PR or PD food either, we are now dealing with costly and dangerous unregulated diabetes and IBD.

Cat will not eat

You changed the ingredients, you made the cans smaller , you raised the price 4 times , I had to add another cat food in with yours so he would eat it .Your dry cat food comes in a big of a bag where the food goes bad with in 2 weeks . This is disgusting

Cannot find anywhere

It seems that all retailers are out of stock for all 3 types of Select protein canned food. Is there a problem with this food? We're running out, and can't order this from anywhere.

Smaller can , new formula but same price?

My cat has severe IBD and the bigger cans were great with the old formula. Now, it's a rough hockey puck in a smaller can for the same expensive price bit we do it to keep him healthy and alive. AND this is the only thing my cat could eat without an upset stomach. Can't find any cans in St. Charles County so we had to switch to dry. It's 3am and we are picking up vomit and blood because there is never a warning that you will stop selling the wet food. This is the second time in 3 years that this has happened. What gives? So thank you for yet again, another night of no sleep and worrying that my cat will end up at the Vet because of the lack of production. Appreciate it.

Why did you have to change

I have a senior cat who eats canned and dry food. I used the can to give her medicine. I would just put it over the canned food and she would eat it up. NOT anymore, the consistency is not the same. So now I have a senior cat who won't take her medicine. I don't understand why you had to change this. Oh and its a smaller can with the same price, terrible.

Why, oh why, did you change the food!

I do not understand why the food had to be changed to a completely different consistency. We add warm water to this kind just as we did with the previous consistency and this one is almost like a ground beef. I'm disappointed because my senior cat is not eating as much now with the change and you can't get the old version anywhere.

Smaller cans but same price is not cool

So I see others requested smaller cans but i have two cats that eat this so smaller is not helpful. But since you went smaller, you should reduce the price accordingly. We are already paying an astronomical amount on this cat food to keep our cats healthy. It's 12 oz less for the same price now.

This portion of cat food is too big, way they do not make a smaller portion.
