In an exciting new partnership aimed at supporting conservation and enhancing sustainability efforts, Royal Canin ANZ has joined forces with Zoos Victoria's Wildlife Detection Dog Program that’s based at Healesville Sanctuary.

Through this collaboration, Royal Canin will provide scienced-based premium nutrition for the dogs in the program, ensuring they maintain the health and energy needed to deliver their vital conservation work.

The Wildlife Detection Dog Program works with specially trained dogs to help locate endangered wildlife across Victoria. Their incredible ability to detect native animals with their superior sense of smell in difficult environments aids researchers with monitoring populations in a variety ecosystem.

Like Labrador Moss who discovered an unknown population of Broad-toothed Rats, Kelpie-cross Kip who searches for Platypus sleeping in burrows and Border Collie Finn who helps biologists monitor Baw Baw Frogs in the wild.

Dean Richardson, Sustainability and Partnership Manager at Royal Canin, said the nutrition company was thrilled to provide their scientifically formulated nutrition for these remarkable dogs.

“At Royal Canin, we understand the profound link between nutrition and overall well-being. By providing the best possible food for the unique needs of these working dogs, we’re not only helping them to perform at their best but also helping Victoria’s native animals– something that aligns with our broader commitment to sustainability.”

This partnership Royal Canin’s Sustainable in a Generation plan, which is dedicated to creating a positive environmental impact while supporting communities and initiatives like this one.

Royal Canin’s commitment to the program further exemplifies the company’s vision to contribute to a more sustainable future. Through initiatives such as this, Royal Canin aims to have a lasting positive impact on both pets and the planet, ensuring that generations to come can thrive in a healthier, more balanced world.

Zoos Victoria Wildlife Detection Dog Officer Naomi Hodgens also expressed enthusiasm about the partnership:

“We are already seeing the benefits of the great diets Royal Canin provides, so it’s wonderful to now partner in an official capacity providing optimal nutrition to our wildlife detection dogs. These dogs play a crucial role in the success of our conservation programs, and their well-being is essential to their effectiveness.”

This partnership marks an exciting step forward in the intersection of nutrition, sustainability, and wildlife conservation, demonstrating the powerful impact of thoughtful collaboration between industry and environmental organisations.
