French Bulldog

The French Bulldog's physique and happy disposition earned them a place in high society among the artistic community of Paris in the 1800s and from then on, they thrived.

About the French Bulldog

French Bulldogs are a typical small-sized molosser breed with a lot of muscle, a compact build and solid bones. They are powerful, but affectionate dogs with large ears that give them an alert and curious expression. They are outgoing, cheerful, playful, athletic, and, above all, affectionate with people of all ages.

The first breed club was formed in Paris in 1880 and the first registration of a French Bulldog was five years later. The breed was first officially recognized in France in 1898.

Exercise

Adult French Bulldogs require around one hour of exercise per day to remain in shape and prevent weight gain. Interactive games are very appealing to adult French Bulldogs, and can be an excellent way to exercise them, physically and mentally.

As they can have breathing issues, adult French Bulldogs shouldn't be over exercised during hot weather as they can quickly overheat. It's best to walk a French Bulldog during the early mornings or evenings during summer to avoid exercise during the hottest times of the day.

French Bulldog health and aging

French Bulldogs are considered to be aging dogs when they reach ten years old. With age, your French Bulldog may experience some hearing loss and vision impairment.

This is common in older dogs but will impact their lifestyle and how much they are able to do. You may also notice reduced motivation to exercise, often due to stiffer joints, so it is important to make sure your aging dog is kept comfortable to ease any joint pains.
